Interactive 3D Models for Planning Applications

Give planning officers a clear understanding of your proposals, through the use of a bespoke iViewer model of the development. By using your existing 3D models, or creating them from scratch from your architectural plans, we can create an interactive model of the scheme, shown in the context of surrounding buildings, for submission to the Planners. Planning departments are increasingly keen to receive 3D models of proposed schemes, but SketchUp models and ArchiCAD files are typically unwieldy, slow to load and require the Planners to have the right software installed on their machines. The iViewer offers a way to present 3D models so that they are easy to use and require no special hardware or software to run.

Interactive models also cut through some of the cynicism and doubt surrounding static 3D images and photomontages. Such imagery can be easily doctored and manipulated to present a scheme the way the developer wants it to be shown. Planners know this and have become somewhat sceptical as a result. An interactive model enables Planners to interrogate a 3D model from any angle and view it from the positions they are particularly concerned about, thereby ensuring they can rely on the information they are given.

We do understand that you may not want to present the planners with ‘too much information’, but a good scheme will stand up to close scrutiny, and most Planners will appreciate being offered the full picture and control over their viewing experience. By presenting the scheme as an interactive model, the iViewer also avoids the potential delay that’s caused when Planners ask to see viewpoints that haven’t yet been rendered – they can view the model from any position in real time, there and then. Bear in mind that we can vary the level of detail included in a 3D model, so if you wish to show the building without materials, or even as a basic ‘white concept’ block model, we can help.
